Kite Fest
Our Kite Fest, Sunday, June 15, 2008, Chaired by Leslie Shipps, was
a huge success on a beautiful day. Gary Sharp and Debbie Borg of the New
York Kite Enthusiasts brought a number of large kites intending
to
demonstrate them. However, what we novices thought were "winds" were
actual "thermals" that didn't allow the big kites much opportunity to
show off. They did get one large kite up that took four people to
handle. The kites made by students in Mrs. MacFadden's art classes at
KCS were a big hit. These "sled" kites
flew beautifully, some out 200'
of string as did kites that McDonough's Valley Hardware provided for
sale. At one time we counted 20+ kites in the air. Banners made by
library students of Mrs. Glass festooned the East Branch tent. Asa
Thomas-Train did an outstanding job as announcer and the Neighborhood
House sold hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages in an adjoining tent. With
the Famers' Market in full swing, Marcy Field was the place to be
on Father's Day. We plan to make this an annual event.
